What To Leave At Home When Going On Holidays

Maze Backpackers - Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Your holidays should be the best time of your year, and though it is important that you have everything that you might need while you are away, there are some things that are better left at home. The following is a brief guide to things to leave at home when you go away on holidays.

Your Worries

It won’t be much of a holiday if you are worrying about every little thing the entire time. The more organized you are with your trip the less you will have to worry about, and don’t forget small but important details like travel insurance and arranging for a house sitter for your place. Consider less risky holiday options too, such as all inclusive resorts, as this way all you will need to do is get there and everything else will be taken care of for you.

Irreplaceable Documents

Unless you are required to, don’t bring original copies of any important documents with you when you are travelling, because should your bags get lost or someone steal your luggage, you will be left high and dry in a very big way. Some documents may need to be brought as proof of identity, though you can often get away with having many of your documents in the form of certified copies instead. If you are worried about leaving precious documents at home alone while you are away on holidays, store them at the local post office or the bank.

Pets

Unless you aren’t going very far for your holidays, you should leave your pets at home and organize for a friend to look after them while you are gone. Travelling is an extremely stressful experience for pets, especially flying; so don’t put them through this traumatic experience unless you absolutely need to. While the idea of having your pet with your family on holidays may seem like a great one, it really isn’t worth it for how hard it is on your pet getting there.

Your Partner

Seriously, every couple should spend at least a little time apart every now and again, as it is a fantastic way to be able to get your head together and have time to do some things by your self. Whether you go away with some other friends or on your own, every now and again it is a smart move to have separate holidays from your partner, as this way you can finally both get what you want.

Your Cell Phone

You should not have to deal with anything when you are away on holidays, and to totally relax you need to completely forget about work, so leave your phone at home, because whatever those important calls or emails have to say, let them wait. You can provide your family with the number of the hotel in Germany or backpackers in Sydney that you are staying at, just in case there is an actual crisis, though otherwise you should spend the entire time just concentrating on relaxing.

If you hope to use your holiday time to actually get a bit of rest and rejuvenation, you need to set your self up for success, and a big part of creating the perfect holiday is knowing what to bring and what to leave behind. So whether you are going backpacking in Sydney, or taking a luxury cruise around the world, make sure you only take what you need, and leave everyone and everything else behind.
