Spending New Years Far From Home

Spending new years eve abroad for the first time can be a little overwhelming. You’re in a new place, without your family and close friends, and you can start to miss them a little if you don’t have plenty to keep you occupied. From ensuring you make friends with the right people while you are staying in Sydney hostels to finding the right event for new years eve you’ll thoroughly enjoy, we’ve got some great tips for ringing in the new year when you’re far from home:

Stay in touch with family and friends

You’ll want to wish your family and friends a happy new year so make sure you do by having credit on your phone so you can call them either new years eve or new years day. Probably better to call them well before the merry-making begins, or leave it until the next day. No good wishing them a happy new year right on midnight your time when you could be waking them up back home and perhaps even having a full length conversation with them that you won’t remember the next day.

Make new friends

When staying in hostels you are bound to meet heaps of people who like you, are spending their new years eve far away from home. Meeting people you get along with will ensure that if you do want to go out on new years eve you’ll have people to party with regardless of where you go and of course it must be noted, it’s always safer to party in numbers.

Know your way around

You may find that you can make your way back at 3am back home no worries, even after you’d had, shall we say, a few too many beverages. But if you’re in a completely new place, navigating your way around can be hard enough without the added extra few thousand people and road closures making it impossible to know how to get home. So, know where your new years eve event is and plan how you will get back to the hostel well before the night begins.

Finding a great event to attend

The best accommodation for backpackers Sydney has to offer tourists will always have staff that are more than happy to help you find out what’s going on nearby on new years eve. Sometimes it’s a great idea to go on a backpackers cruise with other tourists who are staying at the same hostel as you. There are so many different packages and options to explore, it’s just a matter of asking around, looking online and checking out a range of options before making a final decision on where to spend your night. Ultimately, you just want to have a good time and ring in the new year having fun!

Spending new years eve in a completely new country is a wonderful experience. As long as you surround yourself with great people and have a fabulous event to look forward to you’ll find that not only will it be enjoyable, but it will make for a night you’ll never forget!
