5 Tips for Watching the Mardi Gras in Sydney

During the Mardi Gras Festival, Sydney comes alive. If you are staying at one of the Sydney hostels right in the CBD you’ll be able to simply take a short stroll to see the parade. Events and after parties

If you really want to join in the celebrations and live it up during the Mardi Gras Festival, it’s advisable that you purchase tickets to an event. You can buy tickets that will offer premium viewing seats from great vantage points as well as providing you with bar access on the night, without you having to worry about losing your spot. After parties are also popular and are organised at different venues across the city. It’s a good idea to buy tickets to these events in advance as they can sell out.

Watching the parade from the street

If you want to watch the parade from the street you’ll need to:

  • Set up and find your spot early
  • Have seating with you so you don’t have to stand until the parade starts
  • Carry snacks and drinks

Make a day of it with friends and enjoy the festivities and atmosphere of the city as everyone prepares for the parade. The only thing to take notice of here is you will have to get in early if you want to get a good spot to view the parade from.

Dress to impress

The Mardi Gras is certainly one time of year when people can roam Sydney’s streets dressed up however they like! Get into the theme and wear a brightly coloured wig or a sexy costume.

There’s nothing better than having a big night out and being able to stumble back to your hostel when you want to call it a night. Many of the backpackers Sydney has to offer tourists are located right in the heart of the CBD, and only a short stroll to vantage points of the Mardi Gras Parade.  Finding a taxi during one of the city’s busiest nights of the year will be difficult, so being able to walk back to where you are staying will not only save you money, but it’s way more convenient as well.
